Part-Time Cook – URGENT

Hours: 10 hours per week, Saturday and Sunday

TCR Staffing Solutions is recruiting a Part-Time Cook on behalf of a values-led organisation supporting some of the most marginalised individuals, couples and families experiencing homelessness. You will join a dedicated, supportive team in a day service that provides practical help to adults experiencing alcohol dependency, including hot meals, shower and laundry facilities, practical support and social activities.

As Cook you will prepare fresh, nutritious, home-cooked meals: up to three meals a day for up to 23 service users, including people with specific dietary requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious home-cooked meals and snacks.
• Cater for a range of dietary and nutritional requirements and help develop individual meal plans.
• Monitor meal consumption and liaise with colleagues about service users’ nutritional needs.
• Maintain excellent standards of kitchen hygiene and follow food safety, Environmental Health and HACCP procedures, keeping all records up to date.
• Purchase weekly food supplies within an agreed budget, carry out stock takes and maintain stock control.
• Meet catering requirements for stakeholder visits and other service activities.
• Attend supervision, training and catering meetings, and cover extra catering shifts when required.

Essential criteria

• Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering, or willingness to complete it.
• At least one year’s experience preparing fresh, home-cooked meals in a professional catering environment.
• Good knowledge of food hygiene and food safety, including HACCP controls, recording and monitoring.
• Ability to accommodate specific dietary requirements.
• Good communication skills and the ability to build trust with service users and work as part of a team.
• An understanding of homelessness and the challenges people affected by it face.
